Samurai

A 12 track broken beat single (1h 18m 8s) — released January 1st 2006 on Pantone

Pantone Music brings you the heart and soul of Tokyo's music scene 'Jazztronik' , the project from keyboard maestro Ryota Nozaki. Jazztronik's sound encompasses the finest ingredients in today's jazz influenced club music. Taking inspiration from the funk & fusion of 70's jazz and the percussive beats of Brazil, alongside the deep house elements that give Jazztronik such a unique and addictive sound. The birth of Jazztronik goes back to 1998 when a surprise track was included on cult japanese label Flower Records' compilation, F.E.E.L.and Nozaki has never looked back .Going from strength to strength with almost 7 albums under his belt from a variety of labels in Japan and Europe Ryota cuts his deepest groove yet . The album is named after the club smash single 'samurai' which has been in every quality Dj's box for almost a year and still in demand from west London to Tokyo and back again. Heavily played by many top DJs like Danny Krivit , Gilles Peterson (voted by the public as Number 15 tracks of the year on Petersons BBC Radio 1worldwide show), Louie Vega , Derrick May , Kenny Dope , DJ Spinna and Jazzy Jeff (featuring on his new In The House mix album on Defected ) amongst others, shows jazztronik's broad appeal . From the delecate bossa intro into the tropical atmosphere of "Muddy Muddy" across the tough electronic rising Detroit jam 'phoenix', Nozaki's university studies in classical music and film soundtrack composition, not to mention his accomplished piano playing, give him a leg up on most DJ/producers, who often don't even read or write sheet music. But at the same time, Nozaki's music doesn't sound overly studied. "Froro," for example, is a frothy, irresistibly funky house number that references Afrobeat, while the densely textured jazz piano work flavours much of the album, from the mellow, to the urban, hip-hop inflections of "The Piano." Vocal delights from Yurai and Aya complement the tracks and add to the musical influences crystallizing in the modern and cosmopolitan taste of Tokyo.
